Mikalor FAQ
-
What is wrong with worm-drive clips?
- For extreme duty applications a single worm drive clips simply cannot offer the same levels of performance and safety. Did you realise that a 75mm (3 inch) diameter hose 200mm (8 inches) long, operating at 1bar (14.7psi) internal pressure is resisting nearly 500kgs (1100lbs) of force. You need to be sure you have the very best available.
- But the Mikalor clamps are so much more expensive than my normal worm drive clips.
- 95% of worm-drive clips you will have seen are not stainless, so it is really not fair to compare Mikalor clamps with off the shelf worm-drive clips. If you compare the costs of true high grade stainless worm-drive clips with the quality and performance of Supra & Supra W4 (Pro) clamps then you will see how cost effective they really are.
-
I really need the extra performance that Mikalor offer?
- Can you afford to take the risk that an inferior clip will protect your expensive racing engine or show car from failure? As a percentage of the effort you have put in to your engine, Mikalor clips are a sound investment.
-
Can you re-use them?
- Of course. The high quality hex head bolt, and metric formed threads mean they can be re-used literally 100's of times. Have you ever tried re-using a six month old worm-drive clip? It just goes in the bin, doesn't it?
-
Will Mikalor clamps damage my silicone hoses?
- No. The radiused and bevelled edges of the clamps, the 360 degree clamping surface, the even torque spread and the clamp width ensure maximum safe clamp pressures without damage to any hoses.
-
Do they need to be tightened to the maximum torque shown on the specification sheet?
- No. This is an advised maximum. The fine threaded bolt ensures precise control of the loads without over-tightening.
-
Surely they can't be used for exhausts?
- They are so strong that yes, they can be used as efficient low profile exhaust clamps. They are also able to withstand temperatures of up to 1000ᄚC.
-
How easy are they to fit?
- They could not be easier. With the central band swinging back, the removable bolt and the fact that all parts are secured together so nothing falls apart, the Mikalor clamps are far easier than any other design of hose or exhaust clamp.
-
Can the bolt come undone?
- No. At the point where the bolt contacts the clamp, it has a unique design which means that the bolt cannot work loose but still remains easy to remove and re-fit.
-
Will they stretch?
- With a material specification far exceeding any other type of clamps and a wider stainless steel band this means that the tensile strength is up to 20 times greater than traditional worm-drive hose clips.
-
They are wider than my worm-drive clips, why?
- This allows a greater surface area under the hose to be pressurised to ensure a better seal.
-
If they are so good, what is the warranty?
- We offer a 2 year warranty on Supra clamps and a lifetime warranty on the Supra W4 (Pro) clamps. We will replace any clamp, which you are unhappy with, for whatever reason without question. The only stipulation being that it has not been over-tightened.
(*) Torque / Pressure: We recommend to work at 75% of the maximum value.
